In the summer of 2021, a Jackson, Mississippi community was shaken by the violent death of John Martin, a 39-year-old Black male. On the evening of June 17th, Martin, a self-employed mechanic known to his family as a devoted and reserved man, was at his home on Ford Avenue. The night took a tragic turn when he was fatally shot multiple times just outside his own residence. The horror of the event was compounded by the fact that his young daughter was present and witnessed the shooting.
