On the afternoon of July 10, 2021, Jacobe Davis, an 18-year-old Black male from Jackson, Mississippi, was spending a summer Saturday at an apartment complex along Flag Chapel Road when a personal dispute turned suddenly and irreversibly violent. Official records and funeral notices identify him as Jacoby Montrell Davis, born June 24, 2003, a young man whose life had barely begun before it was cut short that day in his hometown.
The trouble unfolded at the Autumn Woods apartments in the 300 block of Flag Chapel Road, a residential area west of downtown Jackson. Witnesses told police that an argument broke out between Jacobe and a 21-year-old acquaintance, Dederico Wilson, sometime that Saturday afternoon. What began as a heated verbal exchange escalated quickly; in the middle of the confrontation, Wilson produced a gun and opened fire. According to Jackson Police Department statements, Jacobe was shot multiple times in the body as the dispute spilled into the open spaces of the complex.
Neighbors called 911, and officers and medical responders converged on 348 Flag Chapel Road, where they found the teenager gravely wounded. Despite efforts to save him, he did not survive his injuries, and the scene was soon cordoned off with crime-scene tape as detectives and evidence technicians began their work.
