In the spring of 2022, a shooting in Tupelo, Mississippi, resulted in the death of 21-year-old Raybric Mims. On the night of April 8th, Tupelo Police were called to Hodges Drive around 10 p.m. following reports of a disturbance that was followed by gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mims, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was subsequently sent to Pearl for an autopsy as the Lee County Coroner's office joined the Tupelo Police in their investigation into the homicide.
The investigation into the death of the young man continued for several months, leading to a breakthrough in November of the same year. Tupelo Police arrested Nijel Hall and charged him with Capital Murder in connection with the shooting death of Raybric Mims. He was denied bond.
The case saw further developments in early January 2023, nearly a year after the incident. A second individual, Meltorris Johnson, was taken into custody by Tupelo Police at a residence on Green Tee Road. Johnson was charged as an Accessory After the Fact to Capital Murder. Like Hall, Johnson was also denied bond, and his case was set to be presented to the next Lee County Grand Jury.
