In the spring of 2022, a night out with friends in Holly Springs, Mississippi, turned into a devastating tragedy for 30-year-old Takila Gross. On April 24th, the mother of two, who was expecting her third child, found her life cut short in a senseless act of violence outside of Roosevelt's Club. Gross was sitting in a car, engrossed in her phone, an innocent bystander to a conflict that would ultimately claim her life.
Earlier in the evening, an altercation had broken out at the club
involving several individuals. The dispute spilled outside, escalating from a physical fight to gunfire. Andre Norman, 38, who had been involved in the initial confrontation, allegedly brandished a revolver and fired at the person he had been arguing with. The intended target was missed, and instead, a bullet struck Gross in the head as she sat in a nearby vehicle, completely unconnected to the dispute. She died at the scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Norman fled into a wooded area. The Marshall County Sheriff's Office launched a search, and following tips from the community, he was apprehended later that same morning. Authorities were also able to recover the revolver believed to have been used in the shooting. Norman was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and held on a $1 million bond. The case proceeded to the legal system, with a court appearance for Norman scheduled for May 2, 2022.
