In a tragic turn of events in Holly Springs, Mississippi, a young woman's life was cut short in a violent act that claimed three other lives. Victoria Pugh, a 23-year-old female, was fatally shot on July 14, 2024. The incident, which has been ruled a quadruple murder-suicide, unfolded in a car where an argument escalated to gunfire.
The perpetrator was identified as 27-year-old Nathan Stewart. He was the father of a three-year-old girl with one of the other victims, 23-year-old Shavawn Murray. The third woman killed was 23-year-old Charday Trevino. According to reports, an altercation erupted between Stewart and Murray concerning their daughter.
At the time of the shooting, Murray was in the driver's seat, with Stewart in the passenger seat. In the backseat, Victoria Pugh was seated with the young child. As the argument intensified, Stewart began shooting. In a final heroic act, Pugh shielded the three-year-old girl with her own body, saving the child from the hail of bullets.
After killing the three women, Nathan Stewart then turned the gun on himself, ending his own life. The toddler was physically unharmed but was a witness to the horrific events. Authorities have confirmed that there will be no arrests as the suspect died at the scene. Previous reports indicate a history of domestic disputes, with a warrant for Stewart's arrest having been issued in 2021 for allegedly stabbing Murray's mother and threatening both women. Both Victoria Pugh and Shavawn Murray were students at Southwest Community College, where Pugh aspired to become a counselor.
