On an April afternoon in Meridian, Mississippi, the lives of two young men were brought to a sudden and violent end. Quandarius Moffite, a 19-year-old male, was at the Exxon gas station located at 325 Highway 19 North on April 27, 2022, when gunfire erupted around noon. In the chaos, both Moffite and 17-year-old Brandarius Boler were struck. They were transported to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Moffite's death was officially recorded on April 28, 2022.
The Meridian Police Department began an immediate and intensive investigation into the double homicide. Their work quickly zeroed in on a suspect, leading to an arrest the very next day. On April 29, 2022, authorities took 26-year-old Cordeyair Brown into custody and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Moffite and Boler. He was held without bond as the investigation continued to unfold, revealing that another individual was allegedly involved in the fatal shooting.
By July 2022, law enforcement had identified a second suspect and publicly sought help in locating him. An arrest warrant for murder was issued for 19-year-old Decameron Brown. After a lengthy search, Decameron Harrison-Brown was captured on December 19, 2023, during a multi-agency sting operation. He was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, bringing the number of individuals facing legal consequences for the deaths of Quandarius Moffite and Brandarius Boler to two. While the arrests marked a significant step toward justice, the motive for the shooting has not been disclosed, leaving the community to grapple with the senseless loss of two of its young members.
