In the spring of 2022, a weekend of violence in Jackson, Mississippi, claimed the life of 15-year-old Jeremy Jermaine Hackett. The Black male teen, known to friends and family as 'Jitty,' was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, May 6. The incident took place in the breezeway of an apartment complex located on West Highland Drive. Reports indicate he was struck twice in the lower back and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
