In the early evening of May 18, 2022, a dispute at the Emerald Pines apartments in Gulfport, Mississippi, escalated into a fatal act of violence that claimed the life of 29-year-old Trevor Walker. Responding to a call at approximately 6:10 p.m., Gulfport Police officers discovered Walker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that Walker had been involved in a physical altercation with two teenagers, which tragically culminated in the deadly shooting.
The suspects, who had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, were identified as 18-year-old Jamicheal Tyron Naylor and 16-year-old Andrew Terrell Dunnigan. In the days following the shooting, the Gulfport Police Department apprehended both individuals. Naylor was arrested on May 19, and Dunnigan was taken into custody on May 20. Both were charged with one count of first-degree murder.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a resolution to the case without a full trial. In January 2024, Naylor and Dunnigan entered guilty pleas to the lesser charge of second-degree murder. During their plea hearing, they admitted to an ongoing dispute with Walker related to 'gang stuff' and claimed to have been threatened by him on previous occasions. On the day of the shooting, they were informed that Walker was entering the apartment complex, at which point they ran towards him with their guns drawn and shot him as they rounded the corner of a building. A judge sentenced both Naylor and Dunnigan to serve 28 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Due to the nature of the conviction, they will be required to serve the entire sentence without the possibility of parole or early release.
