In the late summer of 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace of a gas station parking lot on Ellis Avenue in Jackson, Mississippi, leaving a family and community to grapple with a sudden and violent loss. On that day, August 25, 2022, 42-year-old Ray Monta Keyes was shot and subsequently died from his injuries. He was a Black male and a father to four children who would now have to navigate life without him.
