In the late hours of a Sunday in Jackson, Mississippi, the life of 29-year-old Marquiez Terrell Scott was tragically cut short. On September 15, 2024, officers responded to a call on the 3100 block of Booker Street, where they discovered Scott with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city's 84th homicide of the year.
It is believed that after being shot, Scott attempted to drive away from his assailant, his vehicle eventually coming to a stop on Highway 80 in the nearby city of Pearl.
In the immediate aftermath, the Jackson Police Department began an investigation, initially searching for a white pickup truck they believed was connected to the shooting. For months, the case remained without a publicly named suspect, becoming one of the many unsolved homicides that plagued the city that year. The weekend of Scott's death was particularly violent, with a total of four homicides occurring, prompting the police chief to appeal to the community for assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
A significant break in the case came nearly a year later. In July 2025, the investigation led to the arrest of Mario Brown for his alleged involvement in Scott's murder. He was subsequently given a $1 million bond. Shortly after, on July 30, police issued a warrant for Cardarow Harden. Harden turned himself in to authorities on August 1 and was also charged with murder, receiving the same $1 million bond as Brown.
The case took another turn when, just four days after Harden's surrender, a warrant was issued for his 15-year-old son, Cardarow Harden Jr. On August 13, U.S. Marshals apprehended the teenager and handed him over to the Jackson Police Department. The younger Harden was given a bond of $250,000. The investigation into the death of Marquiez Scott remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek any additional information from the public.
