In a quiet neighborhood in Olive Branch, Mississippi, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 26-year-old Tarvel Newsom, a Black male, and left two others critically injured. The violent encounter unfolded on the evening of December 8, 2022, when Olive Branch Police were dispatched to a residence in the 6100 block of Asbury Place shortly before 10 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene with multiple gunshot victims. Tarvel Newsom was found to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals, 29-year-old Travonni Newsom and 28-year-old Miranda Davidson, were also found with serious injuries. Travonni Newsom had been shot in the face, while Miranda Davidson suffered gunshot wounds to her chest, arm, and back. Both were transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

The investigation quickly identified a suspect, 25-year-old Timothy Malik Newsom, who resided at the same address. Believed to be a domestic violence incident, law enforcement issued warrants for Timothy Newsom's arrest on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. A search for the suspect ensued, involving both the Olive Branch Police Department and the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department.

The following afternoon, officers located Timothy Newsom near Coleman and Davidson roads. After he attempted to hide in a wooded area, authorities were able to take him into custody without further incident. Following his arrest, Timothy Malik Newsom was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. A bond was set at $1 million for the murder charge and $500,000 for each of the attempted murder charges, resulting in a total bond of $2 million. He remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue.
