In a tragic turn of events stemming from a seemingly minor dispute, Special Officer Felix Chapman, a male, was killed in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The incident began when Assistant Chief Henry Klaber responded to a complaint about a man's fishing catch. Upon his arrival at the man's shack, Assistant Chief Klaber was shot and killed.
Special Officer Chapman, who had been deputized by Klaber, was also at the scene. Witnessing the shooting, Chapman picked up the fallen chief's weapon and engaged the suspect. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, both Special Officer Chapman and his brother, who was with him, were fatally shot by the suspect. The violence continued to escalate when Sheriff William Robinson of the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Department arrived and was also shot and killed.
The standoff that followed was intense, with over 500 shots being fired. In addition to the three law enforcement officers and Chapman's brother who lost their lives, two other officers and three civilians were wounded in the shootout. The lengthy and violent confrontation finally came to an end when the house next to the suspect's was set on fire. The blaze spread to the suspect's shack, and he was ultimately killed in the fire.
