In the late summer of 2014, the life of 24-year-old Amanda 'Mandy' Lenore Cecil was tragically cut short in her Chickasha, Oklahoma home. A vibrant and artistic woman, known for her passion, humor, and fierce loyalty to her friends and family, she had a love for the outdoors, photography, and helping others through mission trips with her church. She was a cherished daughter, sister, and friend who had built a life full of adventure and kindness.
On September 5, 2014, a family member
discovered Amanda unresponsive in her residence. The quiet neighborhood on Choctaw Avenue was soon filled with police and investigators from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. It was determined that she had died from a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was investigated as a homicide.
Suspicion quickly fell upon her live-in boyfriend, 31-year-old Lofton Amier Gray Jr. In the initial hours after the discovery of Amanda's body, Gray was nowhere to be found, and authorities issued a call for the public's help in locating him as a person of interest for questioning. Neighbors reported seeing the couple together earlier in the week and noted that they seemed happy, with nothing appearing out of the ordinary.
Following an investigation, Lofton Gray Jr. was located and arrested. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Amanda Cecil's death. Court documents filed in Grady County alleged that Gray unlawfully and with malice aforethought caused her death by inflicting the fatal gunshot wound.
