On a spring day in Bristow, Oklahoma, the quiet of the Carolyn Inn was shattered by a grim discovery. On March 29, 2015, a cleaning woman entered a room to find a scene of violence that would launch a months-long investigation. Inside, lay the bodies of 31-year-old Ruthanne Rex and 19-year-old Jake Wright. The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's office would later determine that both deaths were homicides.
Ruthanne had died from a gunshot wound to the neck, while Jake succumbed to a head wound.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation took the lead in the double homicide case. As investigators worked to piece together the events that led to the brutal slayings, the community was left in suspense. For months, there were no public announcements of arrests, and the motive behind the killings remained a mystery. The case drew significant attention due to the violent nature of the crime and the young ages of the victims.
Several months later, in September 2015, the investigation yielded its first significant breakthrough. The OSBI, in a coordinated effort, arrested two individuals in Tulsa. Antonio Rayfield Moore and Hanah Renee Jones, both 22 years old at the time, were taken into custody and each charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The arrests brought a sense of relief to the community, but the story was not yet complete. The following month, a third suspect was apprehended. Wilbert Moore, 33, was arrested in Tulsa by the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force and also charged with murder in connection with the deaths of Ruthanne Rex and Jake Allen Wright.
