A quiet evening in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, turned tragic on Sunday, January 22, 2017, ending in the death of 40-year-old Robert Fields. A customer at a local gas station, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time during what authorities believe was a botched robbery. The violent encounter also claimed the life of the gas station owner, Mohid Khandker, who was 46.
Another customer, upon entering the store, made the grim discovery of the two men and immediately alerted the authorities.
The ensuing investigation into the double homicide quickly pointed to a suspect.
Law enforcement officials tracked down Heath Haney to Delaware County, where he was found hiding under the front porch of a residence. Initially wanted for burglary, evidence soon connected him to the two killings that had occurred approximately 100 miles away. Investigators believe they have also recovered the weapon used in the commission of the crime.
Robert, who was affectionately known as 'Bobby,' worked as a truck driver. He was a father to two sons and was survived by both of his parents, as well as several siblings.
