In the summer of 2017, a tragedy unfolded in Lawton, Oklahoma, that cut short the life of a young woman. Shaquilla 'Skie' Martinez, a 24-year-old female, was found dead in a residence on Northwest Euclid Avenue on June 22, 2017. Her life was taken by a fatal gunshot wound to the head in what authorities described as a violent home invasion or robbery.
This incident marked the fifth homicide in Lawton for that year.
The investigation into her death moved swiftly, and within a short period, two suspects were in custody. The Lawton Police Department arrested 19-year-old Jamah Starks and 26-year-old Michael Turner in connection with the murder. Starks was apprehended shortly after the incident on Northwest 24th Street, while Turner was arrested the following day. Both men were subsequently charged with first-degree murder.
The case was then handed over to the district attorney's office for prosecution, and the two suspects faced the legal consequences of their alleged actions. The community mourned the loss of Shaquilla Martinez, with her funeral held on June 30, 2017, at Watchetaker Hall, Comanche Nation Complex, where friends and family gathered to remember her.
