On a late afternoon in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the life of 45-year-old Dan C. Beal III, a male, was tragically cut short. On August 10, 2017, police responded to a call of shots fired at a residence on East Ada Spiuel Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Inside, they discovered Beal deceased from a fatal gunshot wound. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was quickly brought in to assist the Chickasha Police Department with the homicide investigation.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a
four-door, gray car with newer, scissortail Oklahoma license plates leaving the area shortly after the shooting. This vehicle became a key piece of evidence in the early stages of the investigation as authorities worked to unravel the events of that evening. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators as they began their work.
The investigation swiftly led to a suspect. Just before midnight on August 11, 2017, authorities arrested 28-year-old Steve Lail Jr. at his home near Blanchard. Lail was taken into custody and accused of fatally shooting Beal. While an arrest was made, the circumstances that led to the violent encounter remained under investigation by the OSBI. The community was left to mourn the loss of Beal, who was remembered fondly by those who knew him, as they awaited justice.
