In the late hours of a June evening in Holdenville, Oklahoma, what began as a routine stop at a local grocery store ended in a fatal burst of violence. On June 24th, 36-year-old Johnathan Merriman was killed in a drive-by shooting at the Pruett's Grocery Store. The sudden and public nature of the attack sent ripples of concern through the community as authorities began the work of piecing together the events that led to the death of the male victim.
The investigation into the homicide
quickly yielded results. The day after the shooting, the Hughes County Sheriff's Office confirmed that two individuals had been apprehended as suspects in connection with Merriman's death. Despite these early arrests, law enforcement officials continued their search for a third person believed to be involved, signaling a more complex situation than a lone actor.
Nearly a month later, the search for the final suspect concluded. On July 28th, Tyler Deerinwater, a 27-year-old also known by the alias Tee Ross, was located and arrested in the parking lot of a Walmart in the nearby city of Seminole. The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by several agencies, including the Seminole Police Department, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the US Marshals, and the District 22 Task Force. Deerinwater was subsequently booked into the Hughes County jail on a charge of murder. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has indicated that the investigation remains active.
