In May of 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at a Tulsa, Oklahoma residence, forever altering the lives of two families. Twenty-three-year-old Marco Celestine Jr., a Black male, was one of two men who lost their lives in the violent encounter that unfolded near 1600 South Memorial Drive. The shooting, which also claimed the life of Joshua Smith, left the community reeling and authorities searching for answers.
Marco, a father to two young children with two more on the way, was
known for his pure heart and his ability to make friends with strangers. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed rafting, playing dominoes, and was known for his impressive dance moves. His love for music spanned many genres, and he was a cherished son, brother, and friend to many. His life was tragically cut short, leaving a void in the lives of his family and all who knew him.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led Tulsa police to a person of interest. Within days, warrants detectives apprehended 20-year-old Kaleb Young at his home on North Boston Place. Following his arrest, the Tulsa County District Attorney's office filed two counts of first-degree murder against Young, officially charging him in connection with the deaths of both Marco Celestine Jr. and Joshua Smith.
