In the late summer of 2019, a tragedy unfolded in the small town of Madill, Oklahoma, forever altering the lives of a local family. On August 22, 15-year-old Jonathan 'Jon' Nathaniel Horath, a male student at Madill High School with a passion for track, was found deceased in his home. Alongside him were his mother, Monica Horath, and his 12-year-old sister, Stephanie Horath.
All three had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the triple homicide quickly focused on one individual: Kevin Moseley, Monica's husband and Jonathan's stepfather. The alarm was raised when a friend of Moseley's in New Jersey contacted authorities, reporting a chilling confession. Moseley had allegedly admitted to his friend that he had shot his wife and stepchildren. This crucial piece of information set in motion a multi-state search for the suspect.
Using cell phone triangulation, the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation were able to track Moseley's movements. Their search led them to Abilene, Texas, where he was located and taken into custody. Following his arrest, Moseley was extradited back to Marshall County to face charges for the three murders.
As the legal proceedings began, a grim picture of the family's final days emerged, suggesting a household troubled by domestic and financial issues. Initially, Moseley pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. However, in a subsequent court appearance, he changed his plea to guilty. Moseley was sentenced for the murders, bringing a close to the official investigation but leaving a permanent scar on the Madill community.
