In the early hours of November 12, 2019, Ross Michael Garrett, a 63-year-old male, was working as a clerk at a 7-Eleven in Yukon, Oklahoma, when his life was tragically cut short. A man named Justin Anderson, 39, entered the convenience store and, in the course of an armed robbery, shot and killed Garrett. The incident took place at the 7-Eleven located at 12201 W. Reno Ave. near Czech Hall Road.
Following the deadly robbery, Anderson fled the scene.
His freedom, however, was short-lived. Later, in the 10900 block of SW 33rd near Sara Road, Anderson engaged in a confrontation with law enforcement. When Anderson opened fire on the officers, they returned fire, and he was killed in the exchange. The death of the suspect in the police shootout brought a swift end to the search for the person responsible for Garrett's murder, closing the case without an arrest in the traditional sense.
Ross Garrett was remembered as a man who never met a stranger and was always ready with a warm smile. A veteran of the United States Army, he had been a resident of Yukon since 1982. He was a husband of 41 years, a father to two sons, and a doting grandfather. His friendly and personable nature had made him a beloved figure to the regular customers at the 7-Eleven, many of whom expressed their grief and shared fond memories of their interactions with him. A GoFundMe campaign was established to provide financial support to his grieving family.
