In a tragic event that unfolded in a home near Yukon, Oklahoma, 18-year-old Dylan Candy was found dead on April 22, 2024. The young man, a recent graduate of Mustang High School, was a victim of a horrific murder-suicide carried out by his own father. The devastating incident claimed the lives of five family members, leaving a community in shock and mourning.
The tragedy began sometime after an altercation between 42-year-old Jonathon Candy and his 39-year-old wife, Lindsay.
Armed with a gun, Jonathon first shot and killed his wife. He then proceeded through the family's two-story house, systematically shooting and killing three of his children: Dylan, 18; Ethan, 14; and Lucas, 12. Investigators described the scene as a 'massacre,' stating that the children were hunted down by their father. After killing his wife and three of his sons, Jonathon Candy then turned the gun on himself.
The gruesome discovery was made by the family's 10-year-old son, who had apparently slept through the entire ordeal. After waking up to find his family deceased, the young boy called 911 at approximately 9:35 a.m. Authorities had no prior record of domestic abuse calls to the family's residence. The motive for the killings remains unclear, and with the perpetrator deceased, the police have officially closed the investigation. The surviving child was unharmed and has since been placed in the care of relatives. The incident has left the entire family 'shattered and confused,' according to a statement from Jonathon Candy's cousin.
