In the early morning hours of June 11, 2021, the life of 76-year-old Edward Akufo, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a sudden act of violence in Oklahoma City. He and another man were inside a vehicle, preparing to drive away from an apartment complex located in the 4400 block of Sunnyview Drive. It was at this moment that an unknown individual or individuals opened fire on their vehicle.
A single gunshot proved to be fatal for Akufo.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and upon arrival, Oklahoma City Police Department officers discovered him deceased inside the vehicle. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound. The other occupant of the vehicle was not reported to have been injured in the incident.
The investigation into the shooting was immediately launched, with homicide detectives canvassing the area for evidence and seeking any potential witnesses who might have seen or heard something that could lead to the person or persons responsible for Akufo's death. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made in the case, and the identity of any suspect or suspects remains unknown.
