Tommy Spurlock Jr., a 59-year-old White male from Wagoner, Oklahoma, died on July 26, 2021, after deputies found him inside a Rocky Point residence with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier that day, his 29-year-old daughter, Sabrina L. Spurlock, had been booked into the Mayes County jail for public intoxication and released that afternoon.
Investigators believe she went to her father’s home soon after her release; authorities said she shot him and left with her two children, ages eight and six. In a subsequent account from law enforcement, she was described as having demanded the return of her children and firing a shotgun before fleeing.
An Amber Alert went out around 7 p.m. A citizen who saw the alert reported spotting Spurlock’s vehicle at a motel several hours south of Wagoner, prompting a pursuit by Caddo police along U.S. 69/75. Officers deployed spike strips, and Spurlock was taken into custody just before 9 p.m. in Bryan County; both children were recovered unharmed.
Authorities reported that Caddo police filed charges related to the chase, including eluding a police officer, child endangerment, and flight to avoid, while Wagoner County investigators handled the homicide investigation. The sheriff said the motive remained unclear as detectives prepared to question Spurlock about what happened.
