Just weeks before this fatal incident, on October 5, 2021, Sarah had taken a step to formally end her marriage by filing for divorce from her estranged husband, 27-year-old Braedon Chesser. The reasons cited in the divorce filings pointed to incompatibility, a simple word for what would tragically spiral into a violent end. When a Pottawatomie County sheriff's deputy arrived at the residence on that fateful October morning, he was met with gunfire from Braedon, who was armed with a rifle.
