In the late summer of 2008, the small community of Edgerton, Wisconsin, was shaken by a tragedy that unfolded within the walls of a local home. Jennifer Vordemann, a 24-year-old Caucasian female, was found dead on Monday, August 18, 2008, in what authorities would later determine to be a murder-suicide.
The preceding weekend had been fraught with tension for Jennifer and her 25-year-old husband, Shuan Vordemann.
The couple, who had been together for six years and married for less than a year, were experiencing significant marital problems. On the Sunday before their deaths, Jennifer had informed Shuan that she was leaving him. The last time her family had any contact with her was around 9 p.m. that evening as she was preparing for bed.
According to Jennifer's aunt, Julie Ellingson, there had been a concerning incident on the Saturday night prior to the deaths. This led to police taking Shuan to the Rock County mental health center for an evaluation. However, he was reportedly released after only about 35 minutes. Concerns were also raised about a welfare check that had been conducted at the couple's home the previous Wednesday.
On the morning of Monday, August 18, the bodies of both Jennifer and Shuan Vordemann were discovered in their Edgerton residence. The prevailing belief among family members, as voiced by Ellingson, was that Shuan shot and killed Jennifer before taking his own life. No arrests were made as the sole suspect in Jennifer's death was also deceased.
