On a tragic day in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, 38-year-old Kacee Tollesbol, a Caucasian female, was killed on August 22, 2014. She was at the home of her sister, Ashlee Steele, when the violent incident unfolded. A nursing student and a newlywed of only four weeks, Kacee was a mother of four children. Her life was unexpectedly cut short alongside her sister in what was determined to be a double homicide.
Before she succumbed to her injuries, Kacee was able to make a desperate call to 911, identifying her brother-in-law, Andy Steele, as the person who had shot her. She reported being shot in the back. When law enforcement arrived at the residence, they found Kacee still alive and she was able to, once more, name her attacker before being transported to the hospital, where she later died. Her sister, Ashlee, was found deceased inside the home from a gunshot wound to the head.
The suspect in the double homicide, Andy Steele, who was 39 at the time, was taken into custody at the scene. A former Dane County sheriff's deputy, he had recently retired due to a diagnosis of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, just two months prior to the incident. In the wake of his diagnosis, his wife Ashlee, with the help of her sister Kacee, had been actively involved in fundraising for his future medical needs. Following the shootings, Andy Steele was hospitalized for injuries that were reportedly consistent with a suicide attempt. He was subsequently arrested in connection with the deaths of his wife and sister-in-law.
