On a spring evening in Milwaukee, a dispute spiraled into a tragedy that claimed the life of 38-year-old Bernice Jackson. The events of May 25, 2009, unfolded on the city's west side, in the 3400 block of North 58th Street, where an argument escalated to fatal violence. The incident, which also resulted in the injury of a 17-year-old boy, was reportedly connected to a child-custody dispute.
The man identified as the shooter was Clyde Tally.
Following an argument, Tally left the scene only to return shortly after. It was then that he opened fire, fatally wounding Jackson and injuring the teenager with her. Bernice Jackson was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Tally was taken into custody. He later pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree reckless homicide for the death of Bernice Jackson. For his crime, he was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison, with an additional seven years of extended supervision. He also faced a concurrent sentence for first-degree recklessly endangering safety in connection to the injuries sustained by the seventeen-year-old.
