In the early hours of Mother's Day, May 11, 2014, a dispute at a Milwaukee blues lounge tragically cut short the life of its owner, Herman Paige, a 47-year-old male. The night was winding down at Big C's Blues Lounge, located near 12th and Hadley, and Paige was telling his patrons that it was time to leave.
An argument erupted when a man, later identified as 28-year-old Dwayne Jobe, insisted he couldn't leave because he was waiting for his mother who was in the restroom.
Paige suggested that Jobe could wait for her outside, which led to a heated exchange between the two men. Despite attempts by Jobe's mother to calm him down after she emerged from the restroom, the argument escalated and Jobe was forcibly removed from the bar.
Once outside, the confrontation turned into a physical fight. After the initial altercation, witnesses saw Jobe walk away from the lounge. However, he returned a few minutes later, brandishing a handgun. He fired a shot into the air, reportedly shouting, "What's up now?" as he walked back towards the entrance of the bar. Jobe then entered the lounge, and multiple gunshots were heard.
Patrons inside the bar found Herman Paige on the floor in the front entrance with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that Paige had died from two gunshot wounds. Authorities quickly identified Dwayne Jobe as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued. He was charged with first-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon.
