In the spring of 2015, the life of Courtney J. Franklin, a 26-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On the evening of April 6th, Franklin was fatally shot, marking another grim statistic in the city's struggle with gun violence. The incident, which was quickly classified as a homicide, prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department as they began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the
young man's death.
In the aftermath, detectives worked tirelessly, canvassing the area for evidence and seeking out individuals who might have witnessed the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify several persons of interest, and a number of individuals were questioned in connection with Franklin's murder. Based on the initial evidence gathered, arrests were made, bringing a glimmer of hope that justice for Courtney and his family was within reach. However, the path to a conviction proved to be fraught with challenges.
Despite the initial arrests, the prosecution faced significant hurdles in building a case that could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
