In the winter of 2021, a burst of gunfire on a Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee shattered the lives of a family and left a community searching for answers. Kendric McMillian, a 20-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot on February 3, 2021. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. inside a vehicle located near the intersection of 99th Street and Appleton Avenue.
Kendric was not the only one to lose his life in the car that day.
Alongside him was his 29-year-old cousin, Jerrion Certion. Both men sustained fatal gunshot injuries in what the Milwaukee police are investigating as a double homicide. The sudden and violent nature of their deaths sent shockwaves through their neighborhood, a place already grappling with the persistent issue of gun violence.
In the wake of the killings, law enforcement began an investigation to piece together the events that led to the shooting. However, the case has proven to be challenging. Despite appeals to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough, the suspects involved in the deaths of Kendric McMillian and Jerrion Certion remain unknown. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide, and the case remains unsolved. The Milwaukee Police Department continues to ask anyone with information to come forward as a family and community continue to await justice.
