Zachary Boose, a 21-year-old resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin, was tragically killed on September 29, 2016. Boose had recently moved to Green Bay from Detroit and was involved in an ongoing dispute with two individuals, Atlas Watson and David Tatum. The conflict culminated in a fatal confrontation outside Boose's apartment complex on Lime Kiln Road.
During this altercation, Watson shot Boose three times in the chest, leading to his death.
Following the incident, both Watson and Tatum fled the scene. Tatum later appeared at the Green Bay Police Department, initially presenting himself as a witness. However, during questioning, it was revealed that Tatum was involved in the crime. Watson was apprehended the following day at an apartment complex on Humboldt Road, with the assistance of a SWAT team.
Both Watson and Tatum were charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Tatum was accused of providing the gun used in the murder and driving Watson to the scene. In court, Tatum pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of first-degree reckless homicide as party to a crime. As part of a plea agreement, Tatum was sentenced to 18 years in prison, followed by 20 years of extended supervision, and was ordered to perform 2,000 hours of community service. Watson, who directly carried out the shooting, reached a similar plea agreement and was sentenced to 32 years in prison, with an additional 28 years of extended supervision.
The case highlights the severe consequences of escalating disputes and the tragic loss of a young life. The legal proceedings and sentences handed down to Watson and Tatum reflect the gravity of their actions and the justice system's response to such violent crimes.
