In the early morning hours of November 24, 2017, a dispute that began in a bar in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, escalated into a violent confrontation that left two brothers dead. Richard Samuel, a 28-year-old Caucasian male, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Beach Bar. His older brother, 31-year-old Kenneth Samuel III, was also shot and later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
The incident cut short the lives of two men in a small community, leaving family and friends to mourn their sudden and tragic loss.
The events of that night unfolded after an argument inside the bar spilled out into the parking lot. According to witness accounts, the conflict intensified, leading to a physical altercation. At one point, a beer bottle was thrown, shattering the window of a truck belonging to Nathan A. Kivi. In response, Kivi, who was 25 years old at the time, retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and opened fire on the Samuel brothers. Richard Samuel sustained four gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Kenneth Samuel III was struck by two bullets and succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
Following the shooting, the suspect, Nathan Kivi of Trevor, Wisconsin, fled the scene. Law enforcement officials were able to track him down hours later on Interstate 94 near Tomah, and he was taken into custody. Kivi was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide. During legal proceedings, it was revealed that Kivi was out on bond for a pending domestic violence case at the time of the shooting. In April 2019, a jury found Nathan A. Kivi guilty of both homicide charges. He was later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
