On a tragic Thanksgiving night in 2017, the life of 31-year-old White male, Kenneth Samuel III, a lifelong resident of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, was cut short. The events of November 24th unfolded outside a local establishment known as the Beach Bar, culminating in a violent encounter that would also claim the life of his younger brother, Richard Samuel.
The evening began with a verbal altercation inside the bar between the Samuel brothers and another man, 25-year-old Nathan Kivi of Trevor.
The dispute spilled out into the parking lot, where the confrontation escalated dramatically. According to witness accounts, Kivi initially fired a gun into the air before getting into his truck in an apparent attempt to leave the scene.
As Kivi started to drive away, the Samuel brothers pursued the vehicle. One of the brothers then threw a beer bottle, which shattered a window of Kivi's truck. In response, Kivi stopped his vehicle, retrieved a handgun from the center console, and exited the truck. He then fired multiple shots at Kenneth and Richard Samuel.
Following the shooting, Kivi fled the scene. Kenneth Samuel III was transported to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington, where he succumbed to his injuries. His brother, Richard, was pronounced dead at the scene. The following day, law enforcement located and arrested Nathan Kivi.
In the subsequent investigation, Kivi reportedly told investigators that he was "blackout drunk" at the time of the incident. In April 2019, a Kenosha County jury convicted Nathan Kivi on two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for the deaths of Kenneth and Richard Samuel. He was also found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of felony bail jumping.
