In the spring of 1993, a family began to worry when they hadn't heard from 52-year-old Willard Clarence Brass. He was last seen by those who knew him on May 13, 1993, at a home in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Two weeks later, on May 27, 1993, his family officially reported him as a missing person. At the time he was last seen, Willard was wearing a blue denim jacket, a white and brown striped shirt, and blue jeans. He also had on a distinctive red and gold ball cap that featured an image of a horse rider against a sunset with the words "Black Hills North Dakota". He was wearing white socks and black leather shoes. Willard, an Indigenous man, was described as having a dark complexion, standing at 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing around 146 pounds. He had grey hair and brown eyes. He was also known to have several tattoos. On his right forearm, he had a dagger and a heart. His left hand had the word "Love" and four aces tattooed across the fingers, and his left arm had the phrase "Born to be Wild 1962" along with his own name, "Willard Brass". These distinguishing features, along with the detailed description of his clothing, were shared in the hopes that someone might remember seeing him. Despite the passage of many years, the investigation into Willard Brass's disappearance has remained active, yet has yielded no definitive answers about his whereabouts.
