Eric D. Williams, a 28-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on August 12, 2018, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident, which also resulted in injuries to two of his children, occurred near 10th and Burleigh. Family members reported that Williams was protecting his children at the time of the shooting.
The man responsible for the shooting was identified as William Burks.
In May 2019, a Milwaukee County jury found Burks guilty of multiple charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of first-degree reckless injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon. At the time of the incident, Burks was 20 years old and had been released from jail approximately a month prior.
In July 2019, William Burks was sentenced for his role in Eric Williams's death. He received a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 46 years. The shooting cut short the life of a man described by those who knew him as funny, caring, and genuine.
