Devon D. Sandifer, a 23-year-old resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, tragically lost his life on May 19, 2019. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 12:40 a.m., at a residence near 23rd and Highland in Milwaukee. According to reports, Sandifer was at home with his cousin, Dangelo Baker, and other friends when an argument broke out.
Witnesses stated that Baker, who was intoxicated, began waving a gun around, prompting Sandifer to escort him outside to defuse the situation.
The confrontation escalated outside the residence, where Baker reportedly continued to brandish the firearm and made threatening remarks. Moments later, gunshots were heard, and Sandifer was found with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was rushed to Froedtert Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Following the incident, Dangelo Baker was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless homicide. The criminal complaint detailed that Baker was intoxicated and acting irrationally, which led to the fatal shooting. Initially charged with first-degree reckless homicide, Baker later pleaded guilty to amended charges of second-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent. The court proceedings included a competency examination to determine Baker's ability to stand trial, and he was ultimately sentenced in January 2020.
