On a late Saturday afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin, the life of 19-year-old Malik J. Moss was tragically cut short. On September 28, 2019, at approximately 6:04 p.m., the young Black / African American man was shot multiple times in the 500 block of Northport Drive on the city's north side. The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that Moss, a resident of the nearby community of Sun Prairie, died as a result of homicidal firearm-related trauma.
The Madison Police
Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their inquiries revealed a chaotic scene where multiple armed individuals were present at the time of the fatal incident. As law enforcement worked to piece together the events of that evening, their investigation led them to a suspect.
Leearthur L. Taylor was identified as a person of interest in the case. He was subsequently arrested and charged with his participation in the shooting that resulted in the death of Malik Moss. Following his arrest, Taylor was ordered to stand trial for his alleged role in the homicide.
The legal proceedings against Leearthur L. Taylor culminated in a guilty verdict for the homicide of Malik Moss. The conviction brought a measure of resolution to the case, holding at least one individual accountable for the violent loss of a young life. In connection with the 2019 killing, an individual by the name of Thomas was sentenced to 25 years.
