In the early hours of June 27, 2020, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 19-year-old Anthony Fimple, a White male from La Crosse, Wisconsin. Fimple was working as a bouncer at the Twisted Moose Bar, then known as the La Crosse Bierhaus, in downtown La Crosse. The tragic events unfolded after Timothy Young, a 32-year-old man from Spring Grove, Minnesota, was denied entry to the establishment.
Angered by the refusal, Young left the premises only to return a short time later.
Surveillance footage captured Young retrieving a handgun from his vehicle, approaching the front of the bar, and shooting Fimple in the head. After the shooting, Young fled the scene in his car. Anthony Fimple was transported to a local hospital and placed on life support, but he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Law enforcement acted swiftly, and Timothy Young was apprehended approximately half an hour after the shooting. He was charged with first-degree intentional homicide. In March 2021, Young pleaded guilty to the charge. During his sentencing, he expressed remorse for his actions. The court sentenced Young to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years.
The community deeply mourned the loss of Anthony Fimple, who was remembered as a kind and generous person. He had volunteered for WisCorps, was a regular blood donor, and had enlisted in the Navy, with plans to report for boot camp in August of that year. In his memory, his family held a private ceremony and planted a willow tree at Myrick Park.
