In the early morning hours of October 3, 2020, the life of 14-year-old NeQuesia Terrell, a Black female, was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a passenger in a car with friends at approximately 2 a.m. when multiple gunshots were fired. One of the bullets struck NeQuesia, leading to her fatal injury.
Following the shooting, her family and friends gathered to mourn their loss and seek justice for the young girl, who was a student at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.
They held a vigil and a balloon release in her honor at 11th and Burleigh, near where the incident occurred. Her grandmother made an emotional public plea for an end to the violence that took her granddaughter's life.
Despite the family's pleas and public calls for information, no arrests have been made in connection with NeQuesia Terrell's death. The case remains unsolved, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. Her death was one of several homicides involving children in Milwaukee that year, leaving a community to grapple with the senseless loss of a young life.
