In the small city of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, the life of a 17-year-old White/Caucasian male, Malachi Myles Anthony Moore, was cut tragically short on the evening of May 17, 2021. Known affectionately as "Bapi," Malachi was a junior at Manitowoc Lincoln High School with a passion for martial arts, particularly Tae Kwon Do and MMA. He was also known for his love of animals, especially his dog, Woogie.
His unexpected death sent ripples of shock and grief through his family and the community.
On that Monday night, police responded to a disturbance call at a residence where a weapon was reportedly involved. Upon arrival, they discovered Malachi with a fatal gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation that followed painted a grim picture of an argument that escalated to a fatal conclusion.
The primary suspect, 19-year-old Joshua Walcott, was arrested in connection with the shooting. It was revealed that the shooting occurred during a dispute over who made more money. Walcott was subsequently charged with first-degree intentional homicide. In addition to Walcott, five other individuals were arrested on various charges related to the incident. These included Malik Thomson for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, Todd Mueller for felony bail jumping and child and animal neglect, Rodney Anderson Jr. for aiding and abetting a felon and bail jumping, Kaden Jones for bail jumping and possession of marijuana, and William Lowe on a probation hold.
In February 2024, Joshua Walcott was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Malachi Moore, with the possibility of parole after 25 years. He also received a concurrent sentence of 20 years for separate sexual assault convictions. During the sentencing, Malachi's parents expressed their profound and unending grief over the loss of their son. The case also brought to light issues of neglect at the residence where the shooting took place, leading to the involvement of the Manitowoc County Department of Human Services.
