The day took a tragic turn when two armed men suddenly burst through an alley gate. Shots from a long gun rang out, and Hughes was fatally wounded in the yard.
Jeremiah was a hardworking young man with a deep love for his large family, which included seven siblings and step-siblings.
He was known to be optimistic and enjoyed music and working with his hands. He had a girlfriend and was so close to his mother, Gwen, that he had her name tattooed on his left hand.
