On a Wednesday afternoon, June 16, 2021, Jeremiah Hughes, a 24-year-old Black man, was diligently mowing a lawn in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, working to expand his landscaping business. The day took a tragic turn when two armed men suddenly burst through an alley gate. Shots from a long gun rang out, and Hughes was fatally wounded in the yard.
