On a tragic Saturday morning in a Milwaukee suburb, the life of 31-year-old Michael Edward "Mikey" Anderson, a Caucasian male, was cut short in a selfless act of courage. The events of February 5, 2022, unfolded in the parking lot of the Park Plaza apartment complex in Brown Deer, stemming from a domestic dispute that escalated into a deadly shooting.
Anderson, an innocent bystander, was fatally wounded when he tried to intervene and help a woman being attacked.
The incident began when 26-year-old Larvell Huddleston confronted 23-year-old Arieuna Reed, the mother of his child. Huddleston opened fire, shooting Reed in the parking lot. Witnessing the horrific event, Michael Anderson rushed to her aid. In response, Huddleston turned his weapon on Anderson, shooting him as well. Another man, Eric Lewis, then attempted to help the fallen Anderson, only to be shot in the leg by Huddleston.
Following the shootings in the parking lot, Huddleston retreated to a second-floor apartment. As police arrived at the scene, he fired at them from a balcony, striking a K-9 unit's vehicle but not harming any officers or the police dog. During the ensuing standoff, Huddleston was seen on a Facebook Live stream. After firing on officers, it is believed he fired one final shot, which was self-inflicted.
When a tactical team eventually entered the apartment, they found Huddleston deceased. Both Michael Anderson and Arieuna Reed were pronounced dead at the scene. Their deaths were ruled homicides, while Huddleston's death was ruled a suicide. Inside the apartment with Huddleston, authorities found his uninjured young child. The investigation concluded that Huddleston was the sole perpetrator, and as he took his own life, no arrests were made in connection with the tragic deaths of Michael Anderson and Arieuna Reed.
