In the city of Milwaukee, a 52-year-old Black / African American man named Clarence Harris was looking forward to a new chapter in his life. Known to his loved ones as "Chicken Wing," a nickname given to him by his grandmother, he was a fun-loving person who had a knack for making people laugh and deeply loved his nieces and nephews. After facing some personal struggles, he was actively working to turn his life around and was seen by his family as a brand new person.
On the evening of
Saturday, March 26, 2022, Harris missed a phone call from his niece, a call that would tragically be his last. The following day, March 27, a grim discovery was made in his first-floor apartment near 54th and Mill Road. Harris, along with his two roommates, 26-year-old Anthony Thompson and Thompson's 39-year-old brother, Tyaries McKinney, were found shot to death. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office pronounced them dead at the scene. Their bodies were found less than 12 hours after the brothers' mother had last spoken with them.
The news of the triple homicide sent shockwaves through the community and left their families devastated. Harris's brother expressed that he had always worried about his brother's safety in Milwaukee and had hoped he would move away from the violence that plagued the city. The incident was part of a troubling increase in homicides in Milwaukee that year.
Milwaukee police launched an investigation into the killings, which they described as an "execution-style" shooting that likely occurred around 2 a.m. while people in the neighborhood were sleeping. The apartment door was found ajar by detectives when they arrived. While the circumstances leading up to the shooting remained largely a mystery, investigators noted that a potential motive could be related to drug dealing from the residence. Despite appeals to the public for information, the case has remained unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. The families of Clarence Harris, Anthony Thompson, and Tyaries McKinney continue to wait for answers and justice for their loved ones.
