In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday afternoon in Janesville, Wisconsin, a senseless act of violence claimed the life of 30-year-old Devon M. Hills. On April 26, 2022, Hills was fatally shot at his workplace, Precision Drawn Metals. The Rock County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that his death was a result of homicidal firearm-related trauma.
The quiet and laid-back father of three was remembered by his family as a hardworking mama's boy and a devoted fan of the
Philadelphia Eagles. He attended Janesville Parker High School and worked as a welder and machine operator. His sudden death left his family, including his three children, mother, and sister, devastated by the unexpected loss.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement identified a suspect, Kevin L. Todd, who was a coworker of Hills. Todd was arrested shortly after the incident. During the investigation, it was suggested that Todd claimed bullying as a motive for his actions, although it was reported that he and Hills had only worked together for a brief period, about seven days.
Kevin L. Todd, then 23, of Evansville, was initially charged with first-degree intentional homicide. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree intentional homicide. In August 2023, a Rock County judge sentenced Todd to 30 years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of extended supervision, bringing a measure of closure to a case that tragically cut short the life of Devon Hills.
