On August 29, 2022, the life of Reginald T. Allen, a 35-year-old Black / African American male from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was tragically cut short. Remembered fondly by friends as Mya, Allen was known for his laughter and the joy he brought to those around him. The events that led to his untimely death began with a brief encounter at a gas station.
That day, Allen crossed paths with 31-year-old Clayton Hubbird and, after a short conversation, got into Hubbird's Chevy Tahoe.
The two then drove to Allen's apartment located near 26th and Wells. It was there that the situation escalated dramatically. A witness reported hearing a heated argument followed by the sound of a gunshot. Despite being gravely wounded, Allen managed to make a desperate call to 911.
In his final moments, Allen was able to provide crucial information to the responding officer. He explained that the man who shot him was someone he had just met at the gas station and described the vehicle the assailant was driving. This vital information, combined with surveillance footage and witness statements, quickly led investigators to identify Clayton Hubbird as the primary suspect in the shooting.
Following an investigation, a warrant for Hubbird's arrest was issued on September 6, 2022, and he was subsequently taken into custody. He faced charges of first-degree reckless homicide and use of a dangerous weapon. During his initial court appearance on October 2, 2022, a cash bond was set at $250,000. The prosecution presented evidence connecting Hubbird to the crime, including the discovery of ammunition and firearm magazines in his bedroom, as the case against him began to move through the legal system.
