On a cold February day in 1996, the quiet community of Moses Lake, Washington, was shattered by an act of violence that would leave an indelible mark on the town. Inside the walls of Frontier Junior High School, 14-year-old Manuel Vela Jr., a male student, was in his fifth-period Algebra class when a fellow student, 14-year-old Barry Loukaitis, entered the room carrying a rifle and two handguns.
