On a tragic summer evening in Renton, Washington, the life of 25-year-old Sarah Montgomery was cut short. On August 22, 2003, what began as a night out with her husband, James Montgomery, ended in a violent argument that escalated with fatal consequences. Responding to a distressing 911 call from Sarah's mother at approximately 1:00 a.m., police arrived at the couple's home to a devastating scene.

James Montgomery, 28, had armed himself with a 9mm pistol and shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself. Both Sarah and James were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds to the head. The King County Medical Examiner's Office later officially ruled Sarah's death a homicide and James's death a suicide.
The tragedy unfolded while the couple's two young children, aged 4 and 2, were asleep in the home, under the care of Sarah's mother who also resided with them. The incident left a void in the lives of their two sons, Elijah and James III. Sarah was remembered as a devoted mother and a beautiful person with a heart of gold by those who knew her.
