Darcey Ann Moore, 46, a woman from Renton, Washington, was killed on the evening of July 19, 2025, during a triple shooting inside an apartment at the Hillcrest Terrace complex on Hillcrest Lane NE. Police were dispatched just after 7:30 p.m. and, looking through a sliding glass door, saw two victims on the floor with blood around them before entering and finding a third; all three—Moore, her 9-year-old daughter, and Moore's sister, 39-year-old Jamie Lee Ray—had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The King County Medical Examiner later determined that 46-year-old Darcey Ann Moore and 39-year-old Jamie Lee Ray died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths homicides.
Investigators collected witness statements indicating the suspected gunman had been at the home since the previous night and was in a dating relationship with 46-year-old Darcey Ann Moore. Charging documents describe video captured from inside the bedroom where 46-year-old Darcey Ann Moore was later found: a man believed to be the suspect is seen standing near her, inserting a magazine into a handgun, manipulating the weapon, and then walking up to the camera and turning it away; the footage ends roughly an hour before officers discovered the victims.
Detectives tracked a 46-year-old suspect to South Seattle and arrested him in Burien around 1:30 p.m. on July 20. On July 23, prosecutors charged Steve C. Vasquez, 46, with one count of first-degree aggravated domestic-violence murder for the killing of 46-year-old Darcey Ann Moore and two counts of first-degree aggravated murder for the deaths of the child and of 39-year-old Jamie Lee Ray. Authorities described the crime as a targeted act of domestic violence, and court filings assert each victim suffered two gunshot wounds.
In early August, Steve Vasquez pleaded not guilty in King County Superior Court. His bail was set at $10 million, and prosecutors cited the brutality of the killings and the risk of flight in arguing for the amount.
