Judiann Evonn Greco Hughes, a 31-year-old White/Caucasian female, was killed on May 6, 2004, in her home in Spanaway, Washington. A former aerobics instructor, dance choreographer, and licensed stockbroker, she was known for her vibrant personality and accomplishments in freestyle roller skating, gymnastics, and cheerleading.
The circumstances of her death were the result of domestic violence. Her husband, Lathan Hughes, shot her to death.
After the shooting, Lathan dropped off their three children at a relative's home. A few hours later, in an empty parking lot near the Southcenter Mall, he took his own life in front of Tukwila Police officers. The couple had been together for eleven years and married for seven. According to her sisters, Judiann had hidden the problems within her relationship from her family.
As Lathan Hughes, the perpetrator, died by suicide, there were no arrests or other suspects in the case. The tragic event prompted her family and friends to organize events to remember those lost to domestic violence and to raise awareness about the issue. An educational fund was also established for her three children.
